The prices for this hotel are great for people who are on a budget, and the rooms are comfy and clean. The hotel is also at a great location, very close to shopping and other sightseeing locations.

The best I like while staying at North Beach Hotel was the 24 hour desk service.

Sometimes unfriendly staff. The room wasn't that clean as it should be. The bed bed was horrible.

    Superb

Location, nice room service, always clean restrooms and showers, what in common use. Strange persons living next rooms.

Paper walls. We can hear every thing and every word.

    Good

Good location and can't argue if you are after a budget bed for the night.

Our room had possibly the nosiest, squeakiest bed in the history of the world. You only had to look at it for it to make a horrible creaky noise. Once you get in bed every time you so much as flinch it sounds like one of the sea-lions that live down at Pier 39 is under the bed is shouting at you. The lock on the door was also very dodgy – I think the record time for “getting the trick to opening it” correct was a minimum of 5 mins at least. Frustrating! There’s a fine line between “basic” and “in desperate need of repair” – this place only just makes it into the “basic” category! Also wasn’t too pleased of the mandatory $30 cash-only deposit required as it wasn’t mentioned until we checked in. At least you get it back when you check-out!

    Location.

I stayed for four days for a conference. It was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. In the first two days my room was very noise and then it took me some effort to change to another quiet room, but it was tiny and smelly, the blanket was dirty, and so was the carpet. It was very much like a shady place in a red zone area of any large city. However, the worst thing was they don't clean your room if you don't explicitly asked them during consecutive stays. It took me an unpleasant confrontation with the front desk lady to get clean towels after I came back from an business event in the midnight and I found out my room wasn't cleaned. In one word, it was a very bad experience. Definitely NOT recommend this hotel.

    good location

the staff were dismissive and often seemed unwilling to help. our room was cleaned 3 times over the week long period we stayed. They had laundry service but one dryer was out of order and this caused a long delay in doing our laundry as we had to wait several hours for other people. the bed was also noisy and uncomfortable, and our room was tiny for two people to share. would recommend if you don't plan spending much time in your room

    Exceptional

A charming experience. I booked a single room with shared bath at the Hotel North Beach primarily because it was affordable in pricey San Francisco. I was very pleasantly surprised. My room was small, but felt cozy, not claustrophobic, perhaps because of the high ceiling and the tall window opening onto a park. I had a nice twin bed, a tiny little sink, a little table and chair, a little microwave, a little fridge, a little TV with lots of channels, and an abundance of toiletry items. I had everything I needed, all on a small scale, and all scrupulously clean. It was like staying in a dolls house. The bathroom right down the hall was also spotless. The integrity of the historic building has been maintained with well-done remodeling. No sloppy paintwork, no cheap drop-ceilings, no grubby carpeting, no scent of cheap cleaning fluid. The location is stellar: in North Beach, right around the corner from Chinatown, an easy walk to the financial district. I look forward to staying there again soon.
